Choice is the future of employee benefits. By offering a health or wellness spending account, you can concurrently diversify and enhance your benefits program in a way that’s directly tied to the autonomy and wellness of each of your staff.

Health Spending Account (HSA) dollars can be used to:

  • Offset anything not paid from the benefits plan

  • Go towards benefits that aren’t covered through your benefits plan but are considered an eligible medical expense by the CRA

  • Deduct before-tax company dollars as opposed to after-tax personal dollars

Wellness Spending Accounts (WSA) Dollars can be used to: 

  • Build a long-term retention strategy focused on holistic wellness by offering a wellness account to long-term staff, which you can increase at your discretion each year. 

  • Tailor your wellness offering to align with your brand values, whether that’s education, physical health, helping subsidize employee daycare costs (child or pet), alternative medical practitioners – or all of the above.

Flex Accounts allow employees to decide how to allocate their annual dollar balance between their Health & Wellness Spending Accounts.


Setting up Your Health/Wellness or Flex Account Program:

  1. Both the HSA and WSA accounts can be offered as a stand-alone plan to business professionals/companies who are not in need of a group benefits plan, or as a top-up to your existing benefits plan.

  2. An employer can pre-determine the dollar amount available to employees through both an HSA & WSA, or they can offer a Flex Account and allow the employee to decide how they want to allocate their Flex dollars between their HSA & WSA.

  3. Employees can purchase additional ‘a-la-carte,’ benefits available through your Health & Wellness Account vendor.
